Build your own large farmhouse mirror from IKEA Minde mirrors for under $75! Follow easy step-by-step plans that include a material cut list, a list of necessary tools & hardware, assembly directions, and dimensions. The overall dimensions of the mirror are 54 1/4″ x 54 1/4″.
This entire project was constructed from pallet boards. Before beginning this build, break down a few pallets and set aside the lumber. Remember, always work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!Download Plans
Cut all boards to the specified dimensions in the cut list. Then, use the Kregg jigg and pre-drill the screw holes in the top and bottom boards. The cylindrical shapes on the drawing below indicate the pre-drilled hole locations. Next, use the 1 1/4” Kregg screws and attach each board. Remember to use wood glue on all joints and wipe off any excess.
Attached the mirror slates. Make sure all the pieces fit nice and snug, then use wood glue to secure each slate in place. Wait for the wood glue to dry before moving onto the next step.
Finish the frame with a paint or stain of your choice. Be sure to paint/stain the back of the mirror frame, so that no unfinished wood reflects through the joint in the front. Add the front decorative hardware (optional). Attached the retainer clips evenly about 1 1/4” from the inside back edge. The mirrors will be inserted vertically. The center mirror will have 4 retainer chips, whereas the outside mirrors should have 6 each. Finally, add a 3/4” screw about 12” down from each side. Do not drive the screw in too far or it will pop out in the front. These screws will be used to attached the picture hanging wire. Cut the wire to a length so that it hides behind the mirror while hanging. Wrap the wire around each screw. Hang and enjoy!
